History:

In the summer of 2000, there was only one book available on Extreme Programming (the 'White book') and generally a lack of understanding about this methodology. Although there was already a large amount of information available via the Extreme Programming 'wiki', it was not very well organized.

Mike Bowler and Bryan Zarnett had developed an interest in Extreme Programming (XP) and wanted to learn more about it. Around this time, Ron Jeffries announced on the XP mailing list that he was going to be in Toronto and would be willing to meet people interested in XP. Mike quickly created the XPToronto user group and sent a general invitation out to the main XP list for anyone in the Toronto area to join.

After a successful first meeting, Mike decided to have regular XPToronto events. The meetings were an excellent forum for sharing experiences and learning more about XP practices. Bryan offered to help with the organization and XPToronto was officially launched.

For the first year, the largely informal group met at restaurants, but found that making presentations on XP was very difficult to do in a Pizza Hut!

In XPToronto's second season, CNC Global offered to host presentation and discussion meetings. With an actual meeting room and projector XPToronto was able to change the format of the meetings and expand on the presentations. After some time, XPToronto was forced to move their regular meetings uptown to Procom Consulting. Finally XPToronto moved back downtown to Exchange Solutions, where meetings are currently still held.

Late in our second season, we renamed the group to XP/Agile Toronto to properly reflect our focus on all Agile methodologies, not just extreme programming.
